Pastoral Exhortation

My B-P Testimony

Written by Bro Ho Kee How Sunday, 24 October 2010

After accepting Christ in my late teens, I started regularly attending a Baptist church nearby my home. For a season, I was basking in my newfound peace and joy, brought about by an awareness of my sins being forgiven. After almost a decade, however, I found myself not growing in any significant way but rather uninspired by the teaching from the pulpit. Yes, the members there were active and enthusiastic to a large extent, but much of this ‘activity’ and ‘enthusiasm’ were self-generated. There was very little dependence on God, I felt; there was a general lukewarmness about the Word of God. I remember the time when the tide of Charismatic Movement was coming in strong among the churches. No clear stand was taken against it, save for a few feeble words of scepticism occasionally. As a result, many young members were confused (some were even swept over to Charismatic churches), while others (like myself) were, at best, undecided about this disturbing phenomenon. There came a point when I realized that if I didn’t go, my faith would go; but which church to go? I needed to beware of jumping from the frying pan into the fire!

Testimony Of God’s Grace, Pardon And Restoration

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 17 October 2010

(A testimony given by Sis Cecilia Tan during t Call to Worship he recent Gospel Rally)

I am sure that it is God’s providence that helps me to stand here before you tonight to share with all of you how my God in His mercy and lovingkindness had dealt with me.

When I was in upper primary school, I came to know the Lord Jesus Christ through my teacher, Miss Gan. She would gather a few girls to teach us from the Bible. These Bible studies were held regularly after school in a nearby church building. After I had left the primary school, I attended church faithfully and convinced Pastor James Wong to baptize me by immersion.

Making Melody Unto The Lord

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 10 October 2010

Two passions of my heart, which the Lord has placed there, are God’s Word and godly music. But I confess that I have not pursued music as much as I love to. One major reason is that I have followed hard after the Lord’s calling to feed the flock of God with His Word. Nothing has consumed my life for the last 20 years and more as much as studying God’s Word for my own blessing and preaching and teaching it to you, God’s dear flock. I am very thankful for so many opportunities to live out my life among you, by ministering the truth of God’s Word. I hope and pray that I will never be hindered all my life from preaching and teaching God’s Word in your midst.

Pastoral Exhortation

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 03 October 2010

My beloved brethren,

The goodness of the Lord towards our church has been once again evident in the recent ACM. We are not only thankful to God for the sustenance and new blessings of our ministries, but also for the united brotherhood.

Will You Not Come To Pray For The Soul Harvest?

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 26 September 2010

Dear brethren,

Our next Gospel meeting is just two weeks away. I trust that you are making every effort to bring at least a friend or relative to hear the preaching of the Gospel of salvation. Let me exhort you, dear brethren, that you also give yourself to earnest prayer for the salvation of souls.

Nothing can be done effectively for the salvation of souls without the Lord’s blessings upon our labour. That is why we must gather to seek His blessings in prayer. If we were to be successful in bringing men to the Saviour, we must pray much.

Church And Evangelism

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 19 September 2010

It is the church’s duty to evangelize the world. When the church as a whole prepares herself to receive sinners to hear the preaching of the Word of His grace, the Lord will use her to gather more souls to His kingdom. If our church would sanctify and equip herself to minister God’s love to people who come to seek the Lord, we shall see a glorious working of God in our midst that would result in a great soul-harvest. I believe this with my whole heart because the church is God’s agency on earth for evangelism.

Treasures Of Wickedness Profiteth Nothing

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 12 September 2010

Proverbs 10:2a cautions us that “treasures of wickedness profit nothing”. This warning is more pertinent than ever before. Countries, organizations and individuals who have previously advocated and promoted a morally upright lifestyle and flourished economically, these days appear to have lost their determination and mettle to continue in maintaining the same principles. In the name of economic security and progress, immorality and destructive lifestyles are being accommodated everywhere. This tolerance of immoral lifestyle for economic reasons will not bring, according to the Bible, any true gain.

The Bride

Written by Ralph Erskine Sunday, 05 September 2010

For your edification and reading pleasure, I would like to publish a poem “The Bride” by Ralph Erskine (1685- 1752). Ralph was a Scottish Presbyterian minister who was imprisoned for field-preaching and for refusing to approve the official Episcopalian church. He was a passionate preacher of God’s Word. He is still well known for his “gospel sonnets”, a collection of evangelical poems intended to press home particular Gospel truths. Ralph was the younger brother of the famous preacher Ebenezer Erskine.

Church And Evangelism In Modern Times

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 29 August 2010

Every faithful church of the modern times must endeavour to preach the Gospel without diluting or altering the biblical concept and message of evangelism. We should never think of the success of evangelism as dependent on human skills and strategies.

Progress Report Of 2010 Ethiopian Assignment

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 22 August 2010

It is our special joy in the Lord to report to you that God has helped our Ethiopian brethren to obtain the necessary permits to build the Bible college and the church in the property that we have purchased in Alem Gena, Ethiopia. Firstly, we needed to obtain the government’s permission to change the use of land from industrial to church use. Secondly, we also needed a special building permit to construct the necessary buildings for the church and the Bible college. We thank God that both have been granted. For your rejoicing, we publish below the e-mail from Rev Ephrem, reporting on the above progress, and also copies of the permits obtained (These are in Amharic and Oromo languages of Ethiopia). All glory be to God.

Biblical Response To Homosexuality

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 15 August 2010

Unstoppable moral declension: a sign of our Lord's return

For more than two decades, there have been relentless efforts all over the world, in all realms of life, to get homosexual behaviour accepted as an alternative lifestyle. People from all walks of life - psychologists, politicians, religious leaders, actors and actresses - were seen trying to get society to accept this unnatural behaviour as a norm.

The Truth Shall Make You Free

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 08 August 2010

Drug addiction is one of the leading perils of our modern society. It has ruined many a life and has broken many a family, more than any other vice ever did. It is a terrible and merciless affliction that brings despair and misery not only to the drug addict himself, but also to his relatives and friends. Though there has been constant effort to eradicate this problem, yet more and more young people continue to fall into its lure and come under its bondage.

Reports From Our Gospel Frontiers

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 01 August 2010

Letters and reports from our missionaries are regularly received. These customary communications are both information and tokens of mutual accountability on the part of our church and our missionaries.

I value the letters (emails, SMS, etc.) from our missionaries. It helps us to cement our partnership in Christ and to coordinate and enhance the work of the Lord. Especially when these letters come with good news of spiritual victories and advances, they enormously refresh our hearts. “As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country” (Proverbs 25:25).

God, Money & You

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 25 July 2010

Without fail, we desire and pray for God's provision for our daily needs. We pray for jobs that we may earn a living. When our business struggle or fail, we pray for His help to meet our financial needs. When we face emergencies, we cry out for God's quick provisions. We do these because God's Word teaches us that "this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us" (1 John 5:14). But our desires and prayers are not always in line with God’s will and His ways. There is nothing wrong with asking for God’s direction, but it is wrong to go our own way without waiting for God’s answer. So, when we turn our finances over to God, we must also be willing to accept His direction. Too often, we impatiently seek our own way without any clear direction from Him, sometimes even borrowing money to do His work. Christians have forgotten that God says He will not allow His work to be frustrated for the lack of money. A discourse between our Lord and His disciples confirm this truth – "When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing" (Luke 22:35). "God's work done in God's way shall lack no supply."

Testimony Of God’s Will For My Life

Written by Bro Ho Kee How Sunday, 18 July 2010

After becoming a Christian in my late teens at a crucial crossroad of my life, it soon dawned upon me that God has a plan for my life. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” (Eph 2:10). This is not “fate” as some superstitious Chinese like to resign themselves to, but rather what the Bible calls “predestination”. I certainly didn’t want to be left to the dictates of my own will or depraved mental specifications (so warped by the world and media). Wanting God’s Good Plan for my life, there were 3 heartfelt prayers which I constantly made of the Lord. And looking back, I felt that all but one of them have been answered.

Sanctify The Lord God In Your Hearts

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 11 July 2010

The Apostle Peter in his first epistle exhorts all Christians, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts” (1 Peter 3:15). Christians are urged to render their full devotion to the Lord. The word “sanctify” (in Greek, hagiazo) depicts the act of separating from all profane things and dedicating solely to God. Not to wholly dedicate to the Lord can mean desecrating the holiness of the Lord who indwells His children.

Thanksgiving Anniversaries

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 04 July 2010

Beloved flock of God,

The month of July has seen anniversaries of several of our missions, both local and foreign. Today, we praise God for the 7th anniversary of our Chinese worship service. On the next two Lord’s days, four of our mission churches in the Philippines (Cebu, Bohol, Bogo and San Antonio) will commemorate their anniversaries. A team of brethren will be joining me in visiting these mission churches to rejoice with them during their anniversaries. They are Kenneth Wong and his family, John and Katherine Peh, Francis and Stephanie Lee, Dorothy Ng, Sarah Yong and Ruth Low. A series of Bible expositions on the Epistle of Jude, based on the theme “Earnestly Contend for the faith”, will be held over 5 days in Cebu. Today, we are happy to have a combined service with our Chinese congregation to praise the Lord for 7 years of God’s blessings upon this ministry. We salute all our brethren in the Chinese worship service and congratulate all of you on this happy occasion of your 7th anniversary. May your labour abound for the glory of Christ and for the salvation and edification of souls.

Tribulation And Cheer

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 27 June 2010

Jesus said, “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33b).

“In the world ye shall have tribulation”

No Christian is fully shielded from troubles. Jesus said it plainly, “In the world ye shall have tribulation.” Jesus has not promised His followers a life totally free from sorrows, poverty, toil, sickness, slander, persecution or any of the common ills of mankind. Instead, He promised every follower a “cross”.

DVBS In Kemaman

Written by Bro Ho Kee How Sunday, 20 June 2010

keehowkimamangroupMy family and I count it a privilege to be part of the Gethsemane BP Church’s DVBS team to Kemaman, led by Pr Daniel Lim. Others in the team include Bro Stephen, Sis Kim Lei and her 2 sons (Jie Wi & Jia Wi), as well as Bro Simon and Bro Ee Kuan (2 Care Ministry brothers who were of immense help to us). Thank God for enabling us to travel to Kemaman to serve, by His grace, in the children’s DVBS. This was held over 2 days: at Dr Wee’s large and spacious house on the first day (Wednesday, 9th Jun), and at the beach on the second (Thursday, 10th Jun), Friday being the Worship Service day.

Mission Trip To Ethiopia

Written by Dn Lok Kwok Wah Sunday, 13 June 2010

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1).

Praise God for the opportunity to visit Ethiopia and the Gospel work started by Rev Ephrem Chiracho Ouchula and to have a good time of fellowship with the brethren there.
