Nurture Of Godliness

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 06 February 2011

An Exposition of 2 Peter 1:3-4

"According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue. Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust" (2 Peter 1:3-4).

Prevention Is Better

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 30 January 2011

There is nothing better than prevention when it comes to sexual sins. If sexual sins occur, there can be severe consequences of various kinds. Most certainly God will forgive those who repent of such sins. Nonetheless, the consequences of such an action can linger on for a long time. So the best is prevention.

One of the sad things about those who commit sexual sins is that they often live in serious denial about their sin. They believe that they will never get caught and somehow, life will continue to move towards a happilyever- after ending. But let us take heed to the old saying, "Be sure your sin will find you out" (Numbers 32:23).

Growing In The Word

Written by Pr Dennis Kabingue Sunday, 23 January 2011

On the first Sunday of this New Year, I have written about reading through the Bible in the year 2011. I exhorted you to join me in this spiritual exercise as we, as a church, strive to be “mighty in the scriptures” (Acts 18:24). I am glad that some have responded joyfully to the challenge of reading through the Scriptures. As part of my effort to spur you on to read the Bible systematically and consistently, I have been interacting with some of you through my blog. Though blogging demands more of my time, I find it exciting to hear your testimonies and to answer your questions. (I may not be able to answer the questions immediately but I would try to answer on every Monday. I appreciate it if you would post your questions early so that I would have sufficient time to prepare the answers to be posted on Mondays.) It also gives me an opportunity to keep you challenged in your reading of the Word.

The Call To Serve The Lord

Written by Pr Dennis Kabingue Sunday, 16 January 2011

A sad thing in the church is that a considerable number of worshippers are withdrawn from serving the Lord. It is shocking that this sin affects many. Why is it that God’s people are more committed to secular work than to the work of the Lord? Why is it that though they know they must lay up treasures in heaven, they amass for themselves treasures of this world, and thus waste their lives for a temporal and perishing world? Are they not aware that serving God is the best pursuit in this present life? Do they know that when one disengages himself from the work of the Lord, he endangers his soul’s well-being? Haven’t they heard concerning the Lord’s hatred against that unprofitable servant which He portrayed in the parable of the ten talents? (Matthew 25:14-30).

New Members' Testimonies

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 09 January 2011

Maverick Pang's Testimony

My salvation

“Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience” (Ephesians 2:2).

I accepted Christ at the age of 18, just before entering the army for National Service. What led to this wonderful life changing experience was a series of events in my life, prior to my accepting Christ, that drove me to see the futility and a sense of despair in living a life of my own...

Be Mighty In God’s Word

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 02 January 2011

Dear Gethsemaneans and friends,

As a New Year dawns, I am setting out on a personal journey. I am very excited about it. Why don't you also join me in this journey?

Christmas Eve Service

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Friday, 24 December 2010

Dearly Beloved in the Lord!

May the peace and joy which the angels proclaimed at the birth of Christ fill your hearts as we gather together to worship Him.

“And the angel said unto them,
Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy,
which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour,
which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11).
“And suddenly there was with the angel
a multitude of the heavenly host praising God,
and saying, Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace, good will toward men” (Luke 2:13-14).

Honouring Christ Through Christmas Gifts

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 19 December 2010

It irritates all of us who love the Lord Jesus when we see that He is taken out of Christmas. That abject deed is not limited to only non-Christians – even Christians have adjusted to the commercialism of the holiday season.

The Pressure Of The Commercialised Christmas Celebration

We have become terribly unbalanced. We give a myriad of useless gifts at Christmas because it is expected of us and we feel guilty if we do not. The commercialised world now makes hundred-dollar toys seem perfectly acceptable...

With An Unchanging God In Changes And Challenges

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 12 December 2010

My beloved Gethsemaneans,

Another year-end is here; and such the first decade of 21st century is coming to a close! What will it be like in the next decade? Many changes are to be expected in the society, Christian realm and also in our individual life. As a church, we will have to face many changes as well. But we thank God that we have an unchanging God.

Revive Us, O Lord

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 05 December 2010

In view of our church camp, starting tomorrow, I pray to the Lord that He will revive every one of us as we gather together around His Word for five days. I trust that you will also join me in praying that a true spiritual revival from the Lord will come upon our church. May the Lord create within us the right spirit that we may be blessed with genuine repentance from our sins and a renewed zeal to love the Lord, His Word and His work.

Character Of The Christian Message

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 28 November 2010

Paul explains the true character of the Christian message in 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 to help us see its inherent power and also the vanity of relying on “the wisdom of words” in preaching the Gospel. “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world?

Unity Of The Faith

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 21 November 2010

Doctrinal differences and controversies among Christians are so many; and they have resulted in the formation of different denominations and even independent churches. Because of such diversity, some do ask, “Why are there so many different churches? How shall we know which one is right? Is it important that we should find the right church?” However, there are others who seek unity even at the expense of very important cardinal scriptural truths. Such compromising efforts are known as neo-evangelicalism and ecumenism; and it is certainly spiritually dangerous and deplorable.

My Visit To India

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 14 November 2010

My beloved Gethsemaneans and friends,

May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be abundantly yours!

My Visit to India

By the time you read this pastoral letter, I would have left Singapore.

I will be away in India, together with my wife and children, to visit my parents and relatives for about 2 weeks. We have not visited my parents for more than three years. So it is with great joy and excitement that we return to my parents’ home. We covet your prayers for our safety in all our journeying, and also God’s blessings upon our family reunion and fellowship.

Abominable Worship

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 07 November 2010

For some years, my heart has been greatly disturbed by the casual, worldly appearance and attitude of worshippers in the churches. A great majority has the attitude that their religious performances, such as attending the worship service, giving tithes and singing hymns guarantee their acceptance by God. They are deluded. They are dreadfully mistaken. The reason why I say this is because among these apparently fervent worshippers, there exists a supercilious attitude towards a holy life.

Reformation Through The Eyes Of Bishop J. C. Ryle

Written by Errol D Stone Sunday, 31 October 2010

Bishop J. C. Ryle wrote an article, Why Were Our Reformers Burned?, in which he first recorded the cruelty that the reformers suffered, and then made a passionate plea to the post- Reformation believers not to despise the cause of Reformation, considering the great price that the reformers have paid for the defence and declaration of biblical truths.

Ryle wrote, “It is fashionable in some quarters to deny that there is any such thing as certainty about religious truth, or any opinions for which it is worthwhile to be burned. Yet, 300 years ago, there were men who were certain they had found out truth, and were content to die for their opinions. It is fashionable in other quarters to leave out all the unpleasant things in history, and to paint everything a rose-coloured hue.” He then went on to describe how the events have turned men of God who were gripped by the truths of God’s Word.

My B-P Testimony

Written by Bro Ho Kee How Sunday, 24 October 2010

After accepting Christ in my late teens, I started regularly attending a Baptist church nearby my home. For a season, I was basking in my newfound peace and joy, brought about by an awareness of my sins being forgiven. After almost a decade, however, I found myself not growing in any significant way but rather uninspired by the teaching from the pulpit. Yes, the members there were active and enthusiastic to a large extent, but much of this ‘activity’ and ‘enthusiasm’ were self-generated. There was very little dependence on God, I felt; there was a general lukewarmness about the Word of God. I remember the time when the tide of Charismatic Movement was coming in strong among the churches. No clear stand was taken against it, save for a few feeble words of scepticism occasionally. As a result, many young members were confused (some were even swept over to Charismatic churches), while others (like myself) were, at best, undecided about this disturbing phenomenon. There came a point when I realized that if I didn’t go, my faith would go; but which church to go? I needed to beware of jumping from the frying pan into the fire!

Testimony Of God’s Grace, Pardon And Restoration

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 17 October 2010

(A testimony given by Sis Cecilia Tan during t Call to Worship he recent Gospel Rally)

I am sure that it is God’s providence that helps me to stand here before you tonight to share with all of you how my God in His mercy and lovingkindness had dealt with me.

When I was in upper primary school, I came to know the Lord Jesus Christ through my teacher, Miss Gan. She would gather a few girls to teach us from the Bible. These Bible studies were held regularly after school in a nearby church building. After I had left the primary school, I attended church faithfully and convinced Pastor James Wong to baptize me by immersion.

Making Melody Unto The Lord

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 10 October 2010

Two passions of my heart, which the Lord has placed there, are God’s Word and godly music. But I confess that I have not pursued music as much as I love to. One major reason is that I have followed hard after the Lord’s calling to feed the flock of God with His Word. Nothing has consumed my life for the last 20 years and more as much as studying God’s Word for my own blessing and preaching and teaching it to you, God’s dear flock. I am very thankful for so many opportunities to live out my life among you, by ministering the truth of God’s Word. I hope and pray that I will never be hindered all my life from preaching and teaching God’s Word in your midst.

Pastoral Exhortation

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 03 October 2010

My beloved brethren,

The goodness of the Lord towards our church has been once again evident in the recent ACM. We are not only thankful to God for the sustenance and new blessings of our ministries, but also for the united brotherhood.

Will You Not Come To Pray For The Soul Harvest?

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 26 September 2010

Dear brethren,

Our next Gospel meeting is just two weeks away. I trust that you are making every effort to bring at least a friend or relative to hear the preaching of the Gospel of salvation. Let me exhort you, dear brethren, that you also give yourself to earnest prayer for the salvation of souls.

Nothing can be done effectively for the salvation of souls without the Lord’s blessings upon our labour. That is why we must gather to seek His blessings in prayer. If we were to be successful in bringing men to the Saviour, we must pray much.

Church And Evangelism

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 19 September 2010

It is the church’s duty to evangelize the world. When the church as a whole prepares herself to receive sinners to hear the preaching of the Word of His grace, the Lord will use her to gather more souls to His kingdom. If our church would sanctify and equip herself to minister God’s love to people who come to seek the Lord, we shall see a glorious working of God in our midst that would result in a great soul-harvest. I believe this with my whole heart because the church is God’s agency on earth for evangelism.

Treasures Of Wickedness Profiteth Nothing

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 12 September 2010

Proverbs 10:2a cautions us that “treasures of wickedness profit nothing”. This warning is more pertinent than ever before. Countries, organizations and individuals who have previously advocated and promoted a morally upright lifestyle and flourished economically, these days appear to have lost their determination and mettle to continue in maintaining the same principles. In the name of economic security and progress, immorality and destructive lifestyles are being accommodated everywhere. This tolerance of immoral lifestyle for economic reasons will not bring, according to the Bible, any true gain.

The Bride

Written by Ralph Erskine Sunday, 05 September 2010

For your edification and reading pleasure, I would like to publish a poem “The Bride” by Ralph Erskine (1685- 1752). Ralph was a Scottish Presbyterian minister who was imprisoned for field-preaching and for refusing to approve the official Episcopalian church. He was a passionate preacher of God’s Word. He is still well known for his “gospel sonnets”, a collection of evangelical poems intended to press home particular Gospel truths. Ralph was the younger brother of the famous preacher Ebenezer Erskine.

Church And Evangelism In Modern Times

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 29 August 2010

Every faithful church of the modern times must endeavour to preach the Gospel without diluting or altering the biblical concept and message of evangelism. We should never think of the success of evangelism as dependent on human skills and strategies.

Progress Report Of 2010 Ethiopian Assignment

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 22 August 2010

It is our special joy in the Lord to report to you that God has helped our Ethiopian brethren to obtain the necessary permits to build the Bible college and the church in the property that we have purchased in Alem Gena, Ethiopia. Firstly, we needed to obtain the government’s permission to change the use of land from industrial to church use. Secondly, we also needed a special building permit to construct the necessary buildings for the church and the Bible college. We thank God that both have been granted. For your rejoicing, we publish below the e-mail from Rev Ephrem, reporting on the above progress, and also copies of the permits obtained (These are in Amharic and Oromo languages of Ethiopia). All glory be to God.

– Pastor Koshy
