Pastoral Exhortation

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 15 May 2011

Dear worshippers,

On Tuesday (17th May) at 6 pm, the 10th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service of Bible Witness will be held in this auditorium. What started as a humble literature ministry 10 years ago has now grown to be a diversified media ministry, with 7 full-time staff, working everyday to spread the truth of God’s word around the world...

A Call To Mothers

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 08 May 2011

This is an urgent call to all mothers to make sure that they are fulfilling their God-given role in the upbringing of their children. In these days, we are hearing more and more of juvenile crimes, teenage pregnancies, drug abuses, etc. And yet, we see an increasing number of children without constant parental care.

God’s Special Providential Care Of The Text Of Scripture

Written by Rev (Dr) Timothy Tow Sunday, 01 May 2011

Deuteronomy 5:1-29; 9:10-21; 10:1-5

There are two accounts recorded by Moses on the giving of the Ten Commandments. The first is in Exodus 19:16-21:26; 31:18-32:28; 34:1-4. The second is recorded in Deuteronomy 5:1-29; 9:10-21; 10:1-5. Deuteronomy means second giving of the Law. Deuteronomy is Moses’ instruction to the children of Israel at the end of his life and of what greater importance is the giving of the Ten Commandments? For brevity, I have chosen to discuss from Deuteronomy and not Exodus.

Christ’s Resurrection Foundational To The Christian Faith

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 24 April 2011

The resurrection of Christ is foundational to the Christian faith. It is perfectly right to say that if there was no resurrection of Christ, Christianity is yet another spurious religion. Consider the following biblical reasons why Christ’s resurrection is very essential to the Christian faith.

The Cross: Death, Judgment, Exaltation & Drawing

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Friday, 22 April 2011

As we gather together today to remember the death of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary, let us prepare our hearts by meditating on the very words of Christ by which He foretold concerning His death. We can never appreciate the death of Christ more accurately and profitably if we do not think of it as He has explained it...

Echoes From The Ordination Of Rev Paul Cheng

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 17 April 2011

We thank the Lord for His blessings upon the ordination service of Rev Paul Cheng held last Lord’s day in Bethel BPC, Melbourne, Australia. Let us pray for his ministry in Bethel that he will be a faithful and effective man of God for the glory of Christ...

Pastoral Exhortation

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 10 April 2011

Dear Brethren,

Today I am in Melbourne, Australia, to participate in the ordination service of Bro Paul Cheng held in Bethel Bible- Presbyterian Church. I am asked to preach God’s Word in the ordination service. Rev Stephen Khoo, the pastor of Bethel B-P Church, is the presiding pastor for Bro Paul’s ordination, and he is joined by Rev Quek Suan Yew, Rev Errol Stone, Rev Hien Nguyen and me.

Young Men, Be Like Men!

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 03 April 2011

Quit you like men” says the Word of God to the Church (1 Corinthians 16:13). But, contrary to the exhortation of God’s Word, we see young men within the churches of our time behaving like women. What a pity! The secularization of modern church is now taking on a new twist. Feminization of the western man has been spreading fast into our Asian communities; and that is finding its way into our churches as well.

Remember His Wonderful Works

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 27 March 2011

Today, we offer our thanks to the Lord for 23 years of the existence of Gethsemane B-P Church. It is our custom to set aside a Sunday in March to recollect and to give thanks for His favour upon our ministries, members and leaders.

Bible Witness 3rd Retreat: “The Names of God” – I

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 20 March 2011

The third retreat of BWMM (March 16-18) was a joyous time of fellowship and studying God’s Word on “The Names of God”. Though it was much labour for me and my co-labourers at BWMM, it was certainly worth all the strain and effort; and we look forward to the next retreat which is to be held, God willing,

Parenting The Teens

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 13 March 2011

The main purpose of this article is to reiterate the importance of a firm, uncompromising, biblical mentality in parental instruction and guidance of the teens.

I urge you in the Lord to plan ahead to participate in as many of these programmes as possible for your spiritual enjoyment and edification.

Pastoral Exhortation

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 27 February 2011

My dear brethren in Christ,

Serving you for Christ’s sake has been my joy for the last 20 years. Not that there was no distress or pain, but it has provided innumerable opportunities to experience the Lord’s grace and power. In as many ways as the Lord has helped me to minister to you, He also works through so many of you to bestow His blessings on me and the work that He has entrusted to our church. We have served together for the glory of our Saviour through the preaching of His Word.

Pastoral Exhortation

My dear Gethsemaneans,

I am very thankful to be back after a “whirlwind trip” to our Ethiopian mission field. The company of Bro Gan Chin Hwi was particularly delightful and helpful in this mission journey. We both appreciate your earnest prayers for our journey; and are glad to report that the Lord has blessed us in accomplishing the purpose of our trip. As you know, our purpose was threefold; firstly, to evaluate the construction of the fence around the property we have acquired; secondly...

How To Become Generous Givers

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 13 February 2011

According to Scripture, if the Lord demands that we give up everything and follow Him, we should not worry about the next meal or what we have to wear. God has promised that He will look after all the needs of His children. "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33).

Nonetheless, a great many Christians worry about tomorrow and strive relentlessly to hoard money for themselves. They would sacrifice relationships ...

Nurture Of Godliness

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 06 February 2011

An Exposition of 2 Peter 1:3-4

"According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue. Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust" (2 Peter 1:3-4).

Prevention Is Better

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 30 January 2011

There is nothing better than prevention when it comes to sexual sins. If sexual sins occur, there can be severe consequences of various kinds. Most certainly God will forgive those who repent of such sins. Nonetheless, the consequences of such an action can linger on for a long time. So the best is prevention.

One of the sad things about those who commit sexual sins is that they often live in serious denial about their sin. They believe that they will never get caught and somehow, life will continue to move towards a happilyever- after ending. But let us take heed to the old saying, "Be sure your sin will find you out" (Numbers 32:23).

Growing In The Word

Written by Pr Dennis Kabingue Sunday, 23 January 2011

On the first Sunday of this New Year, I have written about reading through the Bible in the year 2011. I exhorted you to join me in this spiritual exercise as we, as a church, strive to be “mighty in the scriptures” (Acts 18:24). I am glad that some have responded joyfully to the challenge of reading through the Scriptures. As part of my effort to spur you on to read the Bible systematically and consistently, I have been interacting with some of you through my blog. Though blogging demands more of my time, I find it exciting to hear your testimonies and to answer your questions. (I may not be able to answer the questions immediately but I would try to answer on every Monday. I appreciate it if you would post your questions early so that I would have sufficient time to prepare the answers to be posted on Mondays.) It also gives me an opportunity to keep you challenged in your reading of the Word.

The Call To Serve The Lord

Written by Pr Dennis Kabingue Sunday, 16 January 2011

A sad thing in the church is that a considerable number of worshippers are withdrawn from serving the Lord. It is shocking that this sin affects many. Why is it that God’s people are more committed to secular work than to the work of the Lord? Why is it that though they know they must lay up treasures in heaven, they amass for themselves treasures of this world, and thus waste their lives for a temporal and perishing world? Are they not aware that serving God is the best pursuit in this present life? Do they know that when one disengages himself from the work of the Lord, he endangers his soul’s well-being? Haven’t they heard concerning the Lord’s hatred against that unprofitable servant which He portrayed in the parable of the ten talents? (Matthew 25:14-30).

New Members' Testimonies

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 09 January 2011

Maverick Pang's Testimony

My salvation

“Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience” (Ephesians 2:2).

I accepted Christ at the age of 18, just before entering the army for National Service. What led to this wonderful life changing experience was a series of events in my life, prior to my accepting Christ, that drove me to see the futility and a sense of despair in living a life of my own...

Be Mighty In God’s Word

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 02 January 2011

Dear Gethsemaneans and friends,

As a New Year dawns, I am setting out on a personal journey. I am very excited about it. Why don't you also join me in this journey?

Christmas Eve Service

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Friday, 24 December 2010

Dearly Beloved in the Lord!

May the peace and joy which the angels proclaimed at the birth of Christ fill your hearts as we gather together to worship Him.

“And the angel said unto them,
Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy,
which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour,
which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11).
“And suddenly there was with the angel
a multitude of the heavenly host praising God,
and saying, Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace, good will toward men” (Luke 2:13-14).

Honouring Christ Through Christmas Gifts

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 19 December 2010

It irritates all of us who love the Lord Jesus when we see that He is taken out of Christmas. That abject deed is not limited to only non-Christians – even Christians have adjusted to the commercialism of the holiday season.

The Pressure Of The Commercialised Christmas Celebration

We have become terribly unbalanced. We give a myriad of useless gifts at Christmas because it is expected of us and we feel guilty if we do not. The commercialised world now makes hundred-dollar toys seem perfectly acceptable...

With An Unchanging God In Changes And Challenges

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 12 December 2010

My beloved Gethsemaneans,

Another year-end is here; and such the first decade of 21st century is coming to a close! What will it be like in the next decade? Many changes are to be expected in the society, Christian realm and also in our individual life. As a church, we will have to face many changes as well. But we thank God that we have an unchanging God.

Revive Us, O Lord

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 05 December 2010

In view of our church camp, starting tomorrow, I pray to the Lord that He will revive every one of us as we gather together around His Word for five days. I trust that you will also join me in praying that a true spiritual revival from the Lord will come upon our church. May the Lord create within us the right spirit that we may be blessed with genuine repentance from our sins and a renewed zeal to love the Lord, His Word and His work.
