Borrow For Church's Projects?

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 11 September 2011

Sometime ago, I posted a brief article in my blog (pastorkoshy. info) on "Should a church borrow money to do God's work?" I noticed last week that there was a response to that article (which you may read by visiting my blog). Basically, there are three major claims in that response. Firstly, the blogger says that if it is possible, borrowing from financial institutions to fund a church's project should be avoided. Nonetheless, he claims that it is alright to borrow from sister churches and from its members. Secondly, he argues that my insistence on not borrowing for church projects limits the church from undertaking bigger projects and hence, it is being narrowminded...

Comfort Of God In Our Tribulation

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 04 September 2011

In recent days, several of our brethren have been going through medical treatment for some serious sicknesses, such as cancer. We pray for them earnestly, and some even with fasting, in our prayer meetings and during private prayer time.

These afflicted brethren are so wonderfully comforted and strengthened by the God of all comfort that they share joyfully their testimony of His goodness with others...

Friendships That Lead To Backsliding

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 28 August 2011

Christians ought to remember that their relationships can be either helpful or detrimental to their spiritual life. In the Scriptures, there are clear warnings against relationships that can lead to the spiritual backsliding of God’s people. There are also many stories of friendships which hinder the spiritual progress of believers, even wrecking their spiritual pursuits for very long periods.

Dealing With Problems In Mission Work

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 21 August 2011

When it comes to Gospel missions, the church must be aware of the reality of problems that can hinder and even wreck all her hopes and efforts. It is imperative that every church that is engaged in missions be alert and prepared to deal with problems that would arise from time to time. What makes it all difficult in missions is that it is almost impossible to foresee all the troubles that would arise...

8th Anniversary Of Chinese Service

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 14 August 2011

Chinese Service was started in 2003 with a deep desire to reach out to our elderly parents and friends who are Chinesespeaking. We thank God that the Lord has used this ministry both to reach out to the unsaved with the Gospel, and also to build up the believers in the Word of God. In 2005, the Lord has provided Preacher Daniel Lim to minister God's Word in the Chinese Service. We thank the Lord that he has remained committed to feeding the flock of God in the Chinese Service...

Our Missionary Dominino dela Cruz

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 07 August 2011

Our missionary Dominino dela Cruz

Knowing that all of you are deeply concerned about Preacher Dominino's medical condition, I would like to update you on his present condition. Domi is now undergoing chemotherapy in Cebu City in an attempt to arrest the spread of cancer in his stomach and intestine. The first round of chemo has already been administered. The second round of chemotherapy is scheduled for the last week of August. This week, Domi and his family will reside in the church premises in Cebu. They will remain in Cebu for at least one more week before returning to Bogo. (There will be updates on Domi's condition almost every week through the 'prayer hotline'.)...

6th Anniversary Of The Gethsemane Care Ministry

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 31 July 2011

On 9th of August, there will be a special thanksgiving gathering to commemorate the Lord's goodness towards The Gethsemane Care Ministry for the last six years. It has pleased the Lord to use our church in His hand to provide the Gospel lifeline to scores of men who were sinking into the depth of crime and drug addiction.

Tribulation And Cheer

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 24 July 2011

Jesus said, “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33b).

“In the world ye shall have tribulation”

No Christian is fully shielded from troubles. Jesus said it plainly, “In the world ye shall have tribulation.”

Testimony Of My Call To Full-Time Christian Service

Written by Lynn Teo Jianwen Sunday, 17 July 2011

Missions is not for me!” was what I used to say in my earlier days of salvation. Full-time service barely crossed my mind. I was saved in a charismatic church in New York City, during the aftermath of September 11. My early days of serving God were based on much zeal but a faint knowledge of Christ. My salvation was built on the love of Christ, of which I soberly experienced, when I was nearly disfigured by a car accident, followed by an unhealthy and destructive relationship that left me exasperatedly grasping for acceptance...

Pangasinan Mission Trip Report (1-5 June 2011)

Written by Pr Dennis Kabingue Sunday, 10 July 2011

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen” (Matthew 28:18-20).

What Is Backsliding?

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 03 July 2011

The Bible repeatedly sounds out strong warnings against backsliding. The reason why it warns so much about backsliding is because we are often unaware of its presence in our lives. Backsliding begins unexpectedly. Then like a dangerous cancer, it pervades our lives quickly. So we must learn what backsliding is all about and then exercise utmost vigilance against it lest we be taken unawares.

Gethsemane Bible Institute

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 26 June 2011

By the mercies of God, our church will have the blessed opportunity to witness the beginning of two Bible Institutes. God willing, the first of which will be inaugurated in Cebu, the Philippines, on 17th July, and the second will be on the 10th December.

As we prayerfully await the inaugurations of these two institutes, I would like to share in this article our vision of Gethsemane Bible Institute, wherever it might be established.

Come And Pray: Harvest Is Plenteous, Labourers Are Few!

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 19 June 2011

Dear Gethsemaneans,

Our commitment to the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ should be unwavering. It is our privilege and honour as a church to be entrusted with many Gospel frontiers. We must pray without ceasing for the brethren who labour in the mission fields. Let us also plead for ourselves and them that God will keep us faithful, fervent and fruitful always.

Rebuke: Remedy For Carnality Within The Church

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 12 June 2011

The Scripture clearly teaches us that the remedy for the onslaught of carnality is preaching that confronts sin with burning words and bold rebuke. Consider the preaching of the prophet Isaiah. In the very first chapter itself, Isaiah delivered a startling rebuke of sin. Isaiah denounced the Israelites’ sacrifices as hypocritical. He boldly declared that God despised their oblations, the incense, their holy days and feasts. Then in no uncertain terms, he told them that God would not hear their prayers because their hands were full of blood. Again in that chapter, he denounced them for oppression of the poor, for their rebellion against God, for their spiritual harlotry...

Pastor's Letter To The Youths

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 05 June 2011

Dear youths of Gethsemane and Calvary Tengah,

Passion for Christ! This theme for the combined youth retreat (June 6-8, Mon-Wed) is chosen with a sincere conviction that the church is in great need of Christian youths whose hearts are set on fire for Christ. Most of the youths in modern churches are very worldly - the very thing that Christ and His Word prohibit...

A Call To Mothers

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 08 May 2011

This is an urgent call to all mothers to make sure that they are fulfilling their God-given role in the upbringing of their children. In these days, we are hearing more and more of juvenile crimes, teenage pregnancies, drug abuses, etc. And yet, we see an increasing number of children without constant parental care.

God’s Special Providential Care Of The Text Of Scripture

Written by Rev (Dr) Timothy Tow Sunday, 01 May 2011

Deuteronomy 5:1-29; 9:10-21; 10:1-5

There are two accounts recorded by Moses on the giving of the Ten Commandments. The first is in Exodus 19:16-21:26; 31:18-32:28; 34:1-4. The second is recorded in Deuteronomy 5:1-29; 9:10-21; 10:1-5. Deuteronomy means second giving of the Law. Deuteronomy is Moses’ instruction to the children of Israel at the end of his life and of what greater importance is the giving of the Ten Commandments? For brevity, I have chosen to discuss from Deuteronomy and not Exodus.

Christ’s Resurrection Foundational To The Christian Faith

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 24 April 2011

The resurrection of Christ is foundational to the Christian faith. It is perfectly right to say that if there was no resurrection of Christ, Christianity is yet another spurious religion. Consider the following biblical reasons why Christ’s resurrection is very essential to the Christian faith.

The Cross: Death, Judgment, Exaltation & Drawing

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Friday, 22 April 2011

As we gather together today to remember the death of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary, let us prepare our hearts by meditating on the very words of Christ by which He foretold concerning His death. We can never appreciate the death of Christ more accurately and profitably if we do not think of it as He has explained it...

Rev Stephen Khoo, the pastor of Bethel B-P Church, is the presiding pastor for Bro Paul’s ordination, and he is joined by Rev Quek Suan Yew, Rev Errol Stone, Rev Hien Nguyen and me.

Young Men, Be Like Men!

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 03 April 2011

Quit you like men” says the Word of God to the Church (1 Corinthians 16:13). But, contrary to the exhortation of God’s Word, we see young men within the churches of our time behaving like women. What a pity! The secularization of modern church is now taking on a new twist. Feminization of the western man has been spreading fast into our Asian communities; and that is finding its way into our churches as well.
