Pastoral Exhortation - Series of 2011
Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 10 April 2011
Today I am in Melbourne, Australia, to participate in the ordination service of Bro Paul Cheng held in Bethel Bible- Presbyterian Church. I am asked to preach God’s Word in the ordination service. Rev Stephen Khoo, the pastor of Bethel B-P Church, is the presiding pastor for Bro Paul’s ordination, and he is joined by Rev Quek Suan Yew, Rev Errol Stone, Rev Hien Nguyen and me. This ordination council, having made a diligent inquiry into Bro Paul’s fitness according to the Holy Scriptures in doctrine and manner of life, has decided to ordain him to the work of the Gospel in Bethel B-P Church.
Bro Paul Cheng’s ordination brings much joy and thrill to our hearts, as we recollect how the Lord has strengthened and equipped him through our church. While he was with us, he grew in faith, completed his theological training in FEBC, served as a deacon and preacher, and became instrumental in the setting up of The Gethsemane Care Ministry. We are glad that we could send him to Bethel to fill their need in the ministry, and in this regard I count it a special blessing to be with him during his ordination today and also to deliver the ordination sermon.
To convey our joy and prayerful support for our dear brother, I have written the following letter to him on behalf of all Gethsemaneans.
9 April 2011
Dear Bro Paul Cheng,
It is with great pleasure that we greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, who by His abundant grace has now called you into the Pastoral ministry of Bethel Bible-Presbyterian Church, Melbourne, Australia.
We thank the Almighty God for the joy He has given us to be witnesses of His gracious work in your salvation, your Christian growth and your profitability in the ministry of the Gospel. We are mindful of your love, commitment and faithfulness in the service of our Lord while you were in Gethsemane Bible-Presbyterian Church. We are glad to report to you that your labours among us as a deacon and preacher of the Word continue to bear fruit even till this day. In particular, The Gethsemane Care Ministry, which you have nurtured during your time here, remains steadfast and fruitful.
Now that the Lord has called you to be the minister of the Gospel in Bethel, we commend you to His loving hands in prayer. In our last Tuesday night prayer meeting in Gethsemane, we have taken time especially to pray for you, your ordination, your dear wife and children, and for the congregation of Bethel BPC to which you are called to serve. May the Lord’s blessings abide always with you.
Finally, we would like to exhort you in the love of Christ that you will remain holy, prayerful, faithful and zealous that your profiting may appear everywhere the Lord would send you.
“Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee” (1 Timothy 4:14-16).
Affectionately in Christ,
Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy

The first worship service in the new premises was held yesterday (3rd April) and was well attended. Thank God that everybody was able to find their way and arrived early for the service. Thank God for a good number of visitors and newcomers too!
The children enjoyed their "own" place for the Junior Worship, especially now that the room is air-conditioned. There was not much moving among them as they were enjoying their activities in their separate room. Praise God!
Listening to some feedbacks from the brethren, it seems like we really have to put up an additional air con unit as the 2 units we have cannot sustain the room temperature as the place is much bigger than our previous place. I have encouraged everyone to pray for the Lord's provision, telling them that just as the Lord is able to provide us with a new place, in His own good time He will provide our other needs.
