Good Tidings of Great Joy To All People!

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 25 December 2011

Blessed Christmas!

Let us rejoice for the incomparable
gift of God, the Son of God, our
Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ,
who was born for us in the little
town of Bethlehem.

May Christ be always magnified
in Gethsemane Bible-Presbyterian
Church, where the Lord has joined
us all together to serve Him.
Come, let us worship Christ,
the Newborn King.

“O Come, Let Us Adore Him, Christ The Lord!”

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 18 December 2011

Christmas is just a week away. This year, Christmas falls on a Sunday, and our Christmas service will be held in conjunction with next Sunday’s worship service. It is an occasion when we specially commemorate the birth of Christ. It is a time of joy, for the infinite love of God has been manifested in all its beauty and splendour through Christ. Through His humble birth, we have received the fullness of His grace. Salvation has come to us so rich and free. Let us then come together next Sunday with thanksgiving and praise to God who sent His only begotten Son into this world for our redemption. “O Come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord!”

A Time Of Urgent Needs, A Time For Generous Giving

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 11 December 2011

While writing to the church in Philippi, Paul testified of their generosity towards the work of the Gospel he was engaged in - “Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only. For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity” (Philippians 4:15, 16). The church in Philippi was quick to respond to the needs of the ministry by sending their generous support.

Dear Gethsemaneans, you too have done well in giving towards the work of the Lord till this day. I trust that you will continue to show your joy in supporting the Lord’s work in our church, just as you have shown in the past years...

Pastoral Exhortation

Dearly beloved,

We praise the Lord for His abundant blessings in our church life. His goodness towards us is seen in great measure as He has enabled us to spread the Gospel in many parts of the world, beyond all that we have imagined. "Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen" (Ephesians 3:20-21).

3rd Missionary Conference

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 27 November 2011

We look eagerly towards the 3rd Missionary Conference of Gethsemane B-P Church. This event is a token of God’s grace that has enabled our church to be involved increasingly in worldwide Gospel missions. In this conference, we will have the joy of witnessing the inauguration and dedication of the newly constructed church and Bible institute in Ethiopia.

Our main purpose for organizing missionary conferences is to gather together all our preachers and missionaries for a time of worship, studying God’s Word and strengthening one another through warm and sweet fellowship. We thank God that all our preachers from Singapore are able to attend this conference in Ethiopia. We will also be joined by Rev Reggor Galarpe and Pr Edsel Locot from the Philippines...

Reading Shapes Our Thinking

PrintE-mail

Written by Pr Dennis Kabingue Sunday, 20 November 2011

Reading shapes our thinking. We must be extra careful about what we read. Take note: food is to our bodies what words are to our mind. Words are mind’s food. If our mind’s diet is lust, our body will crave for lust and find its way to fulfil it. Our hands and feet do not act on their own. They wait for instructions. What our mind tells them to do, they will obey (Proverbs 4:23). Likewise, if our daily intake is God’s words and good Christian materials that are faithful to the word of God, our mind will grow in the knowledge and grace of God. It all boils down to what we read...

Theme Of 3rd Missionary Conference - "All Nations Shall Worship The LORD"

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 13 November 2011

"All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee" (Psalm 22:27).

We eagerly look forward to the 3rd Missionary Conference which will be held in Ethiopia from Dec 6-11, 2011. God willing, about 45 brethren will be travelling from Singapore to Ethiopia to participate in this much anticipated missionary conference. A group of six brethren will leave as 'advance party' on 2nd December to prepare for the conference, and the rest will leave on 5th December, early in the morning. Let us pray for the Lord's blessings upon all the preparations that are being done for the conference...

No Time!

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 06 November 2011

No Time! An excuse that is increasingly heard when people are urged to consider spiritual matters and activities. Recently, while I was distributing Gospel tracts, I told a man, who appeared to be in no hurry and sitting in the park to kill time, that if he would not mind, I would like to share with him the very important message of salvation. His response was, “Sorry, no time!” This made me recall some other similar responses...

O, His Goodness!

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 30 October 2011

God's promises of His goodness to His people are plenteous in the Bible. There are also abundant testimonies of His people about His goodness in their lives. Here are a few:

  • "And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth" (Exodus 34:6)...

He Will Prosper Us, So Let Us Arise And Build

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 23 October 2011

I would like to exhort all of you to be full of faith in His goodness and faithfulness, as we found ourselves in need of a huge sum of money (S$500,000/-) to complete the building of the church and Bible college in Ethiopia. Furthermore, the need for S$300,000 in a week's time is making many of us very anxious, causing us to think how we can raise such a huge sum. Brethren, I am assured that this is His appointed time for us to believe and see His power to help us...

Testimonies Of Recent Mission Trip To The Philippines

Sunday, 16 October 2011

I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God. Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it?" (Isaiah 43:12-13).

We praise and thank God for the honour and privilege given to us to behold God’s bountiful blessing bestowed upon the brethren in our mission churches in the Philippines...

Written by Photo Gallery Sunday, 09 October 2011

"I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD"

It is the special delight of everyone who loves God to go into the house of the LORD to worship Him. When the day of worship comes, they love to be where God's people are gathered together. Their hearts rejoice when others tell them it is time to go to the house of the LORD...

The Best Remedy For Carnality Within The Church: Rebuke By Preachers

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 02 October 2011

Scripture clearly teaches us that the remedy for the onslaught of carnality is preaching that confronts sin with burning words and bold rebuke. Consider the preaching of the prophet Isaiah. In the very first chapter itself, Isaiah delivered a startling rebuke of sin. Isaiah denounced the Israelites’ sacrifices as hypocritical. He boldly declared that God despised their oblations, the incense, their holy days and feasts. Then in no uncertain terms, he told them that God would not hear their prayers because their hands were full of blood. Again in that chapter, he denounced them for the oppression of the poor, for their rebellion against God, for their spiritual harlotry. He was unflinching when he remarked that their princes ran with thieves...

Qualifications Of Church Leaders

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 25 September 2011

God's directive concerning the character of those who aspire to serve in the offices of the church is given in Titus 1:6-9: "If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; but a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate..

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 18 September 2011

Dear Gethsemaneans,

Next Lord's day (25th Sept 2011), God willing, our church's election to the Session (2011-2013) will be held in conjunction with the Annual Congregational Meeting. I urge all the communicant members of the church to attend the ACM, as it is our constitutional duty.

For many months, we have been praying as a church for the Spiritappointed men to come to the new Session. The Session of the church was also in much prayer and discussion on this matter. The Board of Elders has considered the names that were nominated and has approved the list of men given below...

Borrow For Church's Projects?

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 11 September 2011

Sometime ago, I posted a brief article in my blog (pastorkoshy. info) on "Should a church borrow money to do God's work?" I noticed last week that there was a response to that article (which you may read by visiting my blog). Basically, there are three major claims in that response. Firstly, the blogger says that if it is possible, borrowing from financial institutions to fund a church's project should be avoided. Nonetheless, he claims that it is alright to borrow from sister churches and from its members. Secondly, he argues that my insistence on not borrowing for church projects limits the church from undertaking bigger projects and hence, it is being narrowminded...

Comfort Of God In Our Tribulation

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 04 September 2011

In recent days, several of our brethren have been going through medical treatment for some serious sicknesses, such as cancer. We pray for them earnestly, and some even with fasting, in our prayer meetings and during private prayer time.

These afflicted brethren are so wonderfully comforted and strengthened by the God of all comfort that they share joyfully their testimony of His goodness with others...

Friendships That Lead To Backsliding

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 28 August 2011

Christians ought to remember that their relationships can be either helpful or detrimental to their spiritual life. In the Scriptures, there are clear warnings against relationships that can lead to the spiritual backsliding of God’s people. There are also many stories of friendships which hinder the spiritual progress of believers, even wrecking their spiritual pursuits for very long periods.

Dealing With Problems In Mission Work

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 21 August 2011

When it comes to Gospel missions, the church must be aware of the reality of problems that can hinder and even wreck all her hopes and efforts. It is imperative that every church that is engaged in missions be alert and prepared to deal with problems that would arise from time to time. What makes it all difficult in missions is that it is almost impossible to foresee all the troubles that would arise...

8th Anniversary Of Chinese Service

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 14 August 2011

Chinese Service was started in 2003 with a deep desire to reach out to our elderly parents and friends who are Chinesespeaking. We thank God that the Lord has used this ministry both to reach out to the unsaved with the Gospel, and also to build up the believers in the Word of God. In 2005, the Lord has provided Preacher Daniel Lim to minister God's Word in the Chinese Service. We thank the Lord that he has remained committed to feeding the flock of God in the Chinese Service...

Our missionary Dominino dela Cruz

Knowing that all of you are deeply concerned about Preacher Dominino's medical condition, I would like to update you on his present condition. Domi is now undergoing chemotherapy in Cebu City in an attempt to arrest the spread of cancer in his stomach and intestine. The first round of chemo has already been administered. The second round of chemotherapy is scheduled for the last week of August. This week, Domi and his family will reside in the church premises in Cebu. They will remain in Cebu for at least one more week before returning to Bogo. (There will be updates on Domi's condition almost every week through the 'prayer hotline'.)...

On 9th of August, there will be a special thanksgiving gathering to commemorate the Lord's goodness towards The Gethsemane Care Ministry for the last six years. It has pleased the Lord to use our church in His hand to provide the Gospel lifeline to scores of men who were sinking into the depth of crime and drug addiction.

Tribulation And Cheer

Jesus said, “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33b).

“In the world ye shall have tribulation”

No Christian is fully shielded from troubles. Jesus said it plainly, “In the world ye shall have tribulation.”

Testimony Of My Call To Full-Time Christian Service

PrintE-mail

Written by Lynn Teo Jianwen Sunday, 17 July 2011

Missions is not for me!” was what I used to say in my earlier days of salvation. Full-time service barely crossed my mind. I was saved in a charismatic church in New York City, during the aftermath of September 11. My early days of serving God were based on much zeal but a faint knowledge of Christ. My salvation was built on the love of Christ, of which I soberly experienced, when I was nearly disfigured by a car accident, followed by an unhealthy and destructive relationship that left me exasperatedly grasping for acceptance...
