Testimony by Bro Kenneth Wong

My salvation

I started attending church at the tender age of 10, when I was in Primary 3. My elder sister who is a Christian brought me to church. My family was Taoist and ancestral worshippers. My father did not allow us to attend church.

My father passed away in 1985 when I was 13. Elder Ng, Sis Dorothy and a few brethren from Sharon B-P Church came to my house to visit and comfort my mother.

Revision Sharpens Our Thinking

PDFPrintE-mail

Written by Pr Dennis Kabingue Sunday, 29 January 2012

Revision sharpens our thinking. High achievers find wisdom in this proposition. Revision is demanding but it pays off. A second look is always a better look. When we work on our stored knowledge by way of revision, we are providing our mind with an opportunity to refresh our memory and more. As we sort out our ideas in our mind, our understanding of things is actually being refined, strengthened, deepened and broadened. That is why he who revises finds it easier to come up with good answers during examinations.

The concept of revision is also vital in our spiritual lives. If we are in the habit of revising the sermons that we hear in church, our souls will benefit from them greatly. There is a reason why God ordained the preaching and teaching ministry as central to our church life experience. God knows how much we need His Word.

Pursue Godly Fellowship

PDFPrintE-mail

Written by Pr Jeremiah Sim Sunday, 22 January 2012

The Scriptures exhort believers to congregate for mutual edification. Sadly, today many Christians forsake the assembly of the saints to pursue friendship with the world.

Hebrew 10:23-25 demands that Christians who look forward to Christ’s return must resist the world and yield themselves to godly fellowship. “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching” (Hebrews 10:23-25)...

Prayer And Christian Fellowship

PDFPrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 15 January 2012

Prayer is a ministry in which the bond of Christian fellowship is strengthened as mutual needs and burdens are presented before the Lord. Incessant prayers for one another are taught in the Scriptures (Hebrews 13:18; 1 Thessalonians 5:25) with regard to physical (James 5:16) as well as spiritual (Colossians 1:9) blessings. As such, it is expected of every Christian to pray one for another. An Old Testament prophet even declared that it is a sin to cease praying for the people of God (1 Samuel 12:23).

Gethsemane Men’s Fellowship

PDFPrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 08 January 2012

We begin a new fellowship group for men in our church so that they may be built up through the Word and Christian fellowship. I am working together with our Adults’ Fellowship committee to organise GMF into a vibrant ministry.

Why this new effort? The Lord expects Christian men to be leaders of their homes and church. The Lord has called them to bear the burdens of spiritual leadership. When men become spiritually weak, backslidden, and worse still, unfaithful, their homes and church suffer severely from all the consequences of poor leadership...

Memories And Obligations!

PDFPrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 01 January 2012

As I ponder on the conclusion of 2011, I am overwhelmed by a sense of deep obligation to God. This is especially so, when I consider how undeserving and wretched I am before His holy presence. He has been so good, and so magnanimous! The memories of God’s wondrous help throughout the last year are immensely awesome! I bow my head low before His exalted throne in thankful praise. Brethren, you too must bring your tribute to God with thanksgiving....

Christmas is just a week away. This year, Christmas falls on a Sunday, and our Christmas service will be held in conjunction with next Sunday’s worship service. It is an occasion when we specially commemorate the birth of Christ. It is a time of joy, for the infinite love of God has been manifested in all its beauty and splendour through Christ. Through His humble birth, we have received the fullness of His grace. Salvation has come to us so rich and free. Let us then come together next Sunday with thanksgiving and praise to God who sent His only begotten Son into this world for our redemption. “O Come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord!”

A Time Of Urgent Needs, A Time For Generous Giving

PDFPrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 11 December 2011

While writing to the church in Philippi, Paul testified of their generosity towards the work of the Gospel he was engaged in - “Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only. For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity” (Philippians 4:15, 16). The church in Philippi was quick to respond to the needs of the ministry by sending their generous support.

Dear Gethsemaneans, you too have done well in giving towards the work of the Lord till this day. I trust that you will continue to show your joy in supporting the Lord’s work in our church, just as you have shown in the past years...

Pastoral Exhortation

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 04 December 2011

Dearly beloved,

We praise the Lord for His abundant blessings in our church life. His goodness towards us is seen in great measure as He has enabled us to spread the Gospel in many parts of the world, beyond all that we have imagined. "Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen" (Ephesians 3:20-21).

Reading Shapes Our Thinking

PDFPrintE-mail

Written by Pr Dennis Kabingue Sunday, 20 November 2011

Reading shapes our thinking. We must be extra careful about what we read. Take note: food is to our bodies what words are to our mind. Words are mind’s food. If our mind’s diet is lust, our body will crave for lust and find its way to fulfil it. Our hands and feet do not act on their own. They wait for instructions. What our mind tells them to do, they will obey (Proverbs 4:23). Likewise, if our daily intake is God’s words and good Christian materials that are faithful to the word of God, our mind will grow in the knowledge and grace of God. It all boils down to what we read...

We eagerly look forward to the 3rd Missionary Conference which will be held in Ethiopia from Dec 6-11, 2011. A group of six brethren will leave as 'advance party' on 2nd December to prepare for the conference, and the rest will leave on 5th December, early in the morning. Let us pray for the Lord's blessings upon all the preparations that are being done for the conference...

No Time!

PDFPrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 06 November 2011

No Time! An excuse that is increasingly heard when people are urged to consider spiritual matters and activities. Recently, while I was distributing Gospel tracts, I told a man, who appeared to be in no hurry and sitting in the park to kill time, that if he would not mind, I would like to share with him the very important message of salvation. His response was, “Sorry, no time!” This made me recall some other similar responses...

O, His Goodness!

God's promises of His goodness to His people are plenteous in the Bible. There are also abundant testimonies of His people about His goodness in their lives. Here are a few:

  • "And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth" (Exodus 34:6)...

He Will Prosper Us, So Let Us Arise And Build

PDFPrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 23 October 2011

I would like to exhort all of you to be full of faith in His goodness and faithfulness, as we found ourselves in need of a huge sum of money (S$500,000/-) to complete the building of the church and Bible college in Ethiopia. Furthermore, the need for S$300,000 in a week's time is making many of us very anxious, causing us to think how we can raise such a huge sum. Brethren, I am assured that this is His appointed time for us to believe and see His power to help us...

We praise and thank God for the honour and privilege given to us to behold God’s bountiful blessing bestowed upon the brethren in our mission churches in the Philippines...

The Best Remedy For Carnality Within The Church: Rebuke By Preachers

PDFPrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 02 October 2011

Scripture clearly teaches us that the remedy for the onslaught of carnality is preaching that confronts sin with burning words and bold rebuke. Consider the preaching of the prophet Isaiah. In the very first chapter itself, Isaiah delivered a startling rebuke of sin. Isaiah denounced the Israelites’ sacrifices as hypocritical. He boldly declared that God despised their oblations, the incense, their holy days and feasts. Then in no uncertain terms, he told them that God would not hear their prayers because their hands were full of blood. Again in that chapter, he denounced them for the oppression of the poor, for their rebellion against God, for their spiritual harlotry. He was unflinching when he remarked that their princes ran with thieves...

Qualifications Of Church Leaders

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 25 September 2011

God's directive concerning the character of those who aspire to serve in the offices of the church is given in Titus 1:6-9: "If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; but a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate..
